Grain Market Advisor

This page is for a grain farmer or commodity trader who is already looking for an advisor. It says what Klarenbach sells, what it costs, and how that differs from marketing your own grain.

Who this is for

This page is for grain farmers in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and in the US Midwest, and for traders who follow the same markets.

It does not teach grain marketing from the start. If that is what you need, start with Grain Marketing 101.

Marketing your own grain, or using a report

Most grain farmers sell their own grain. You can keep doing that.

The sale stays with you. You still choose the elevator or the buyer, and you still decide whether to act on a signal.

A Klarenbach report is a short, crop-specific email. It gives a chart-based read, a price target, and a sell signal from technical analysis. It does not take the sale.

Portfolio Consulting is the 1-on-1 option. It is a plan built around your farm's production costs, risk tolerance, and financial goals, with ongoing advice through the season. It is priced by consultation; use the Contact Us button on the pricing page.

Positive returns are not guaranteed, and the decisions stay with you.

What you can buy

What you can check

Klarenbach Research publishes dated case-study write-ups. Those pages do not replace your own marketing decisions, and positive returns are not guaranteed.

The pricing FAQ says the decisions stay with the reader, and positive returns are not guaranteed.

The case studies page has three write-ups. The figures below are as stated there.

Durum, 2022. The sell signal moved below $19.60 on 15 Jan 2022. The price fell about $1.40 per bushel in two weeks. Marketing decisions remain yours.

Canola, Andy, eastern Alberta. The page's figures are 680 tonnes, $90 per tonne, and $61,200 as of 24 May 2024, with the price at 670 after a low near 577 to 580.

CWRS, subscriber J.H., May 2024. The Klarenbach SK Price Index went from $8.92 per bushel to $9.32 per bushel by 27 May 2024, 40 cents a bushel on unsold inventory.

On the pricing page, Murray Booy is quoted as saying "a nice profit of $1600 covers my subscription fee."

Broker, advisor, and newsletter

A broker can execute trades. A full-service advisor firm often builds the plan and stays on the phone. Klarenbach's main product is the newsletter with signals. Consulting is the 1-on-1 step up.

Questions

What do I get from Klarenbach if I am looking for a grain market advisor?

You can buy the Klarenbach Grain Report, the Klarenbach Special Crops Report, or Portfolio Consulting. The reports are short emails with a chart-based read, a price target, and a sell signal. Consulting is 1-on-1. You still make the sale.

Can I keep marketing my own grain?

Yes. The sale, the buyer, and the decision stay with you.

When should I work with a grain marketing advisor, and when is a newsletter enough?

A newsletter is enough if you want a chart-based read, a price target, and a sell signal, and you will still make the sale. Portfolio Consulting is the step up when you want a plan around your own costs, risk, and goals.

What is the difference between the Grain Report, the Special Crops Report, and Portfolio Consulting?

The Grain Report covers wheat, canola, barley, oats, corn, soybeans, and flax, plus side notes on diesel, cattle, fertilizer, currencies, and interest rates. The Special Crops Report covers peas, lentils, chickpeas, canaryseed, and mustard, plus side notes on diesel, fertilizer, currencies, and interest rates. Portfolio Consulting is 1-on-1, with a plan around production costs, risk tolerance, and financial goals.

Which crops are in which report?

Canola stays in the Grain Report, with wheat, barley, oats, corn, soybeans, and flax. The Special Crops Report is peas, lentils, chickpeas, canaryseed, and mustard. It does not include canola.

How much does it cost, and is there a trial?

Each report is $157.50 per month, with a free 30-day trial, or $1,575 per year (two months free). The Research Bundle is $2,625 per year for both reports. Prices are in Canadian dollars, and sales taxes apply. Cancel before the free trial ends. There is no refund after the trial. Portfolio Consulting is priced by consultation.

Do you guarantee a better price than I can get myself?

No. The pricing FAQ says the decisions stay with the reader and that positive returns are not guaranteed.

Where are the case studies?

The three write-ups are on the case studies page: durum in 2022, canola for Andy in eastern Alberta, and CWRS for subscriber J.H. in May 2024.

How is this different from a grain broker?

A broker can execute trades. Klarenbach's main product is the newsletter with signals. Consulting is the 1-on-1 step. The broker comparison and the role of an advisor are covered in the two posts linked above.

Who is this for?

Grain farmers in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and the US Midwest, and traders who follow the same markets. It is not a beginner lesson. That is Grain Marketing 101.
