The Klarenbach Price Index is a continuous Saskatchewan cash price series used in the Special Crops Report.
It is not an elevator bid sheet. It is not a futures price.
It is the series charted so that support, resistance, moving averages, and Fibonacci levels can be read the same way across decades.
Fundamentals such as acreage, carry-in, export demand, and tariffs are treated as already reflected in the chart.
By Trent Klarenbach, BSA AgEc, PAg, founder and lead analyst, Klarenbach Research, Saskatoon, SK.
Red, large green, medium green, and small green lentils; yellow and green peas; Kabuli chickpeas; canaryseed; and yellow, brown, and oriental mustard. Units match producer trading: cents per pound for lentils, canaryseed, and mustard; dollars per bushel for peas.
Every public note leads with the Index level that was tested on a specific date. The date is part of the level. A 20¢ reading from September is not the same as a 20¢ reading from March.
Public notes give the dated level, the current bias, and the trigger that would change the bias. Premium notes add the full chart walkthrough, measured targets, and specific sell signals. The Index shows levels. It does not tell you how much of your crop to sell.
Saskatchewan red lentil Index tested 20¢ support (2 Sep 2026).
Canaryseed Index holding 18¢ (2 Sep 2026).
Green pea Index at $9.00/bu near the 20-year trend line (23 Sep 2026).
Special crop markets lack liquid futures contracts. The Index provides a continuous, consistent series so technical levels can be identified and tracked over time.
Lentils, canaryseed, and mustard are quoted in cents per pound. Peas are quoted in dollars per bushel. The 35-year special crops dataset also covers other specialty crops, with input series such as fertilizer and diesel added for margin context.
It is a continuous Saskatchewan cash price series for special crops. It is used for technical analysis and is neither an elevator bid sheet nor a futures price.
Public notes show the dated level and bias. Premium notes include specific sell signals. The Index itself does not specify how much of the crop to sell.
